The cheap cuff that was issued in my EMT class had a valve that would not close all the way allowing air to release faster than I could read. It also had a small (normal) sized gauge that made it hard to read without my reading glasses and a lot of light. As a firefighter, it is not always possible for me to bring my reading glasses along. This cuff, in addition to being set up for one handed operation, also has a larger gauge that is easier to read, and is easier to position for viewing. Additionally, the valve actually closes allowing me to release the air at the rate that works best for me. It is definitely a good piece of gear to have along with me in the pumper.
