The Wizard Wand exam light is a 4,000 candlepower xenon light source that provides cobalt blue illumination (UV). It operates on 2 AAA size batteries. This exam light CANNOT be placed in an autoclave. However it is waterproof and CAN be cleaned with soap and water as well as chemicals such as Cidex if sterilization is required. Light easily turns on and off with a simple twist of the lens.
The Wizard Wand provides a collimated beam of cobalt blue light (UV) which is effective for examination of the eye for foreign debris. It will also excite fluorescein dyes used to detect corneal abrasions or locate small or translucent particles in the eye.
The Wizard Wand comes with two lighted eye wands designed for the removal of foreign bodies from the eye. Most solid foreign bodies can be easily removed with one of the two wands. The nylon loop wand is used to carefully sweep away any non-metallic foreign bodies such as wood shavings, dirt, sand, glass, etc. The magnetic wand can be used to remove magnetic material from the conjunctiva by positioning the magnetic tip just above the particle, allowing it to lift it from the eye. The strength of the magnet makes it unnecessary to contact the eye or particle with the magnet. Each of these wands fits onto the end of the clear lens. To attach the desired wand to the exam light, simply push it gently onto the end and it should fit snugly.
The two fluorescein strips can be used for fluorescein staining of the eye to detect corneal abrasions or hard to find foreign bodies. Standard eye staining procedures should be followed.
The protective carrying case is compact and rugged, perfect for travel or storage in a lab coat pocket.
