Rock your Medicine Rotations

As a major #healthtech nerd, I became obsessed with this addition to my medical school utility belt. It allowed me to actually pick up murmurs my attendings did not. The most useful feature was being able to play heart sounds through the speakerphone on my phone so that the entire team could listen to the heart sound at once during rounds - vs everyone asking the patient one by one to listen.

Loved it at first

Me and my favorite cardiologist were initially impressed with this device but after just 2 days of use in clinic, it is not functioning. Will let you know after discussing this with customer service.

Educational innovation, the future of how medicine will be done

Currently I see patients everyday. It can be a quite busy day and often hard to tell exactly the nuances of what you might be auscultating. Well, no more. I was ecstatic to try out this adaption to my own Cardiology III. I had owned the Littmann Electronic stethoscope in the past but had been extremely dissapointed by the lack of user interface and inability to function on a Mac computer. I mean really? A Mac? Well in comes this new device which was incredible at amplifying whatever I was hearing but it also allowed me the ability to record it. I am pretty heavily involved in creating medical education resources and content. The additional benefit of having that data be available just blew me away. These guys and gals hit the nail on the head with this. I expect big things from them too! Oh, and to be completely honest I couldn't get it to work for the first two days. Eventually, writing an email to customer service. To my surprise the CEO of the company personally called me and walked me through the very complicated process of turning it around as I had installed it upside down. What can I say? This company is great and I will for sure be doing business with them again.

It makes auscultation so much easier

Received it as a gift from my fiancé this month and it makes auscultation so much easier and I love the ability to switch between analog and digital. Very nice gadget. There's no second guessing what heart or lung sound I heard. Connecting it your existing stethoscope is very simple.

Reasonably OK

Needs an very quiet place to listen, noise reduction is a problem. Records sounds ok on iPhone, but also captures all the surrounding disturbances. Definitely amplifies the sounds well. Lung sounds have to be heard on low volume or else will hear rales in all patients. Needs time to get used to it. Will not give up.

hearing impaired

I'm an EMT and my hearing problems makes it very hard to take blood pressures in the ambulance. I've been trying everything to solve this problem. This is the second digital stethoscope solution that I've tried and they both had the same problem. The problem is that while they both make the things that I hear louder, which is good, neither of them let me hear the things that I can't hear. There's some threshold that's the same as my ears. The first one that I tried was the Think One and although it was louder than this one, the Eko had the advantage of working with a regular stethoscope so you don't have to carry around separate headphones. Another advantage is that if you're batteries go dead you have the fall back of the analog stethoscope. One thing that I really disliked about this was the way it fit on my stethoscope. I have a Littmann and I just couldn't get the adapter to the ear part to fit on tightly. Twice in the field the whole thing fell apart. Granted running around as an EMT is a tough environment but still you'd think that they'd make extra sure that a Littmann would be snugly held. The sound was definitely enhanced so if you were looking to hear subtle sounds it would be a great help. As far as making the difference so that I can hear Korotkoff sounds in the ambulance I guess I just have to keep looking for solutions.

This is the best electronic stethoscope ever!! and I've tried them all.

You can easily compare what you'd hear normally to the digital enhancement. Even if you don't use the app this is a worthwhile investment

Love the Eko!

I've been using this scope for a few months now. They recently upgraded the microphone and the recording is great! It's a great way to teach students and residents by easily playing sounds back. For doctors working in the community, I've also found it a valuable way to connect with patients and family by playing their heart sounds for them. If there's pathology, they really seem to appreciate hearing their murmur. There is no other stethoscope like this. I can easily shut off the digital and now I still have my same stethoscope! Genius!!!

Eko stethoscope is incredible

This is the future of the stethoscope. Incredibly versatile....can use it like a normal analog stethoscope but can easily switch to digital mode, which allows you to record heart and lung sounds, playback these sounds, and upload them to an EMR. I've used the Eko stethoscope to teach medical students and PA students, as well as to present heart sounds in lectures.

best of both worlds - analogue meets digital

Easily attaches to your own stethoscope (I use a Littmann Cardio III - Eko Core only works with single tubed stethoscopes) or can be purchased with a high quality stethoscope as part of the bundle. It is small and lightweight allowing it to be kept on your stethoscope at all times. It stays powered off 98% of the time and only needs charged 1-2 times per month. The Eko Core has noise reduction and sound amplification so it has helped tease out some grade 1/6 murmurs and I can alway send questionable recordings easily with the iPhone/iPad application to a colleague for a second opinion. Also is a handy tool for educators to save and share recordings to help learners learn the art of auscultation.
