Q: What made you want to become a nurse?
A: I wanted to become a cardiothoracic surgeon. I had a lot of family members that were in and out of the hospital and I really saw how much the nurses were involved. They really will make or break a patient's stay at a hospital. That's mainly why I chose nursing over becoming a physician.
Q: What experience in your career has had the biggest impact on you?
A: As a nurse, we're able to see somebody come into this world. I think that's super powerful watching a child be born. Then, actually seeing someone pass away. Those are the biggest and most touching things- they are super powerful.
Q: What is the best nursing advice you have received?
A: It's nothing personal. No patients or family members have a vendetta against us- it's just situational. We have to take that up and be 150% of our best selves.
Q: What is the most important goal you hope to accomplish as a nurse?
A: One of the first things is to become a family nurse practitioner. I'd also really like to go on a mission trip somewhere and either help children or help with surgeries. I want to go to Africa. I want to go to Nicaragua. That's definitely on my nursing to-do list.
Q: What's the one item in your wardrobe you can't live without?
A: I cannot live without a good pair of shoes and of course my stethoscope. I seriously can't get enough comfortable shoes because when you're on your feet for 12 hours, you're running around back-to-back shifts, you've got to have a good pair of shoes! Also my stethoscope- it's my go to and it's on me almost at all times.
Q: What scrubs are you wearing right now and how do they feel?
A: I'm wearing my favorite, Cherokee and these are Cherokee Workwear Revolution scrubs. I honestly love these scrubs. They're not too tight or too loose- they're just right.
